The winning prints by Chen, Lee and Yen depict what happens in the offices of advertising agencies when the bosses are away, according to a Nov. 17 news release from National Taiwan Normal University, where Chen is enrolled as a fine arts graduate student.
Representing the advertising firm Bates Taiwan Co., Ltd., the four illustrations, titled “Tian It Ng,” “Nick Lam,” “Sonal Dabral” and “Polly Chu,” were an illustration campaign entry in the competition’s print category.
“I decided to fill the scenes with humorous details, so as to intrigue the audience whenever they look at the posters,” Chen said.
The series, created for the 4A Yahoo Creative Awards, is a tribute to four top chief creative directors in Asia, namely Tian It Ng at Lowe Singapore, Nick Lam at Hong Kong’s McCann Worldgroup, Sonal Dabral at Bates India and Polly Chu at JWT Beijing, who served as judges for the 2009 award, Chen said.
Bates Taiwan was the only agency from Taiwan to win gold at the awards, the LIA said in a press release.
Out of 13,562 submissions from 79 countries this year, only 0.6 percent won Gold Statues, the LIA added.
The U.K.-based LIA is an annual international awards show honoring new ideas in advertising, design and digital media. This year’s ceremony took place in London Nov. 8. (THN)
